Director Duties & Responsibilities

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the co-op and is responsible for establishing policies, providing strategic direction, hiring and evaluating the general manger and overseeing all major corporate decisions. It has a fiduciary responsibility to represent the members of the co-op as provided for in state law and by our bylaws. To accomplish this, the board must structure itself so that it has the knowledge and skills to carry out its duties in a manner that is efficient and cost-effective.

Board Elections

What if I want to serve on the Board of Directors?

Union County Electric's membership elects directors to serve a three-year term. All qualified members are encouraged to consider serving. All nominees must meet the director qualifications set forth by the Union County Electric bylaws. Petitions are due 40 days prior to the Union County Annual Meeting.

When does the board election occur?

The elections occurs at the Annual Meeting.

How do I run for the Board?

The qualified member must take out a petition and receive 10 signatures from members within their district. The completed petition must be returned to the Cooperative Office no later than February 1 or each year.

How can members vote?

Each member can cast one vote, in person at the Annual Meeting. Votes will be tallied  by a committee of members and overseen by the Cooperative attorney.

By Laws

Our bylaws are the guidelines for our operation and management. They provide the framework for co-op governance, including director eligibility, responsibilities, and conduct. As a member-regulated utility, Union County operated under board-approved rules, regulations and rates.
